Should you wash your beard with body wash instead of shampoo?

No, you shouldn’t.

Your typical pharmacy shampoos and body washes contain surfactants which is what separates the dirt and grime from your skin and water and everything else in the shower.

Most of these surfactants are not made for hair and are just straight up too harsh for your hair especially for facial hair.

Your face should not be anywhere near these harsh cleansers.
