Can I Use Body Wash in My Beard Instead of Beard Shampoo?

Beard Shampoo vs Body Wash: What's the Difference?

We have all been in this scenario.

You’re in the shower and you still need to wash your beard but you realize that your bottle of beard shampoo is empty.

Since you bought the big bottle of whatever Manly Body Wash was on sale, it’s all you have left.

Should you wash your beard with body wash instead of shampoo?

No, you shouldn’t.

Here’s why.

Your typical pharmacy shampoos and body washes contain surfactants which is what separates the dirt and grime from your skin and water and everything else in the shower.

Most of these surfactants are not made for hair and are just straight up too harsh for your hair especially for facial hair.

Your face should not be anywhere near these harsh cleansers.

Why Should I Use Beard Shampoo?

That’s why we always recommend specific beard shampoo and conditioner like ours as they do not contain these harsh chemicals.

Shampoo gently cleans your beard and conditioner moisturizes and hydrates your beard while making the skin underneath healthy as well.

Our shampoo cleans just the perfect amount and won’t strip away all your natural oils which leads to many problems like beard dandruff and dry flaky skin.

It’s a great way to soften your beard with doing minimal beard maintenance.

If you use harsh soaps in your beard or hair then it’s only a matter of time you will see problems.

The pH balance of your skin will be thrown off, you may be under- producing or over-producing natural oils.

This leads to oily skin and hair which also leads to breakouts.

When you are not producing enough oils, you will dry out.

This leads to dandruff, flakes, irritation, patchy spots and damaged hair that breaks off due to split ends.

These issues are very common.

In fact, they are the most common issues that men face when they are growing their beards for the first time or 100th time.

So if you find yourself without beard shampoo, don't use body wash, hair shampoo, or soap to wash your beard. Instead, dispense a small amount of conditioner in your hands and massage it throughout your beard and rinse with cool or lukewarm water.
